When Covid hit back in March of 2020 I like so many others was sent home to work. Almost 2 years later I am still working from home. I have found several things that interest me and have explored them from bird watching to keeping up with the weather in my back yard through a personal weather station. For so long though I have wanted to be able to cook. Not just cook but barbecue things like ribs, briskets and pork butts. This was something that I stayed away from because it intimidated me. I didn’t want to spend the money on the meat and it not turn out good. This is where my wife stepped in and decided to send me to a school for my birthday. In April of 2021 I attended the Southern Thunder BBQ School and it changed my life. It armed me with the knowledge and most importantly, the confidence I needed to begin cooking some of these things I have enjoyed for years. Upon returning from my class I came home and ordered my first smoker. I have been cooking up a storm on this thing ever since.
This page is for those who were like me and might be afraid to step out and give this a try. My only regret with all of this is that I waited so long to start. I hope you find the inspiration you need to step out of your comfort zone and begin enjoying some good home cooked barbecue. I also welcome those more seasoned veterans to offer any suggestions to me on how I can make my cooks even better. I am still a novice at best and am always looking to make the best food I can possibly make.
